Hi, everyone!

I know it has been over a YEAR since I’ve posted here, but I thought I would offer you a quick life-update and let you know about my new blog.

To make a long story short, I transferred out of Union College after my sophomore year. I’m sure this may come as a shock to some of you, seeing as how Simply Izzy was created to blog about, and promote, Union College, but it’s true….Union just wasn’t the right fit for me. I’m actually not going to disclose the name of the school that I transferred to, but I will tell you that it is an Ivy League institution in New England and a much better fit.

Anyway, after quite the hiatus from blogging…I’m starting up again! I, initially, was going to keep posting here, but I realized that I wanted 1) a new domain name and 2) to start anew — so I created!

I’m hoping to fill my new blog with honest and creative content, so if you liked (LOVED?) Simply Izzy, please feel free to check it out and maybe even follow it!

You can also follow me via Bloglovin‘!

Minerva Fellows Sale! 5/31-6/1!

The Minerva Fellows of 2012 are back on campus with plenty to share!

For those of you who don’t know, Union College offers the Minerva Fellows Program – In short: Each year several graduating seniors are selected (based on applications and interviews) to receive a scholarship that pays for them to spend the next eleven months, post-graduation, working with a social entrepreneurial organization in a developing country!

One of my good friends, Winnie, was selected to be one of this year’s (2013’s) Minerva Fellows and will be heading to Durban, South Africa soon after graduation! My other good friend, Andrew, was selected to go to Ecuador! (Obviously I have  incredible friends!)

Either way, the 2012 Minerva Fellows are back on campus and are selling plenty of beautiful fabrics, scarves, trinkets, candles, and more from Kenya, Zimbabwe, South Africa, India, and Uganda!

So come to the Minerva Fellows Sale (International Craft Fair)!!

It will be held TODAY (May 31st, 2013) from 1-3 PM and TOMORROW (June 1st) from 2-4.

A Very Successful Birthday!

Yesterday (May 30th) I turned twenty years old!

While I was originally a bit bummed that I’d have to spend my birthday on campus as opposed to somewhere a bit more relaxing (read: the beach), my friends made my birthday absolutely worthwhile!

Since Thursday was one of the hottest days of the week (it was in the 80s!) my friends and I spent plenty of time outdoors and in The Gardens (which I’ve talked about before here).

I, of course, had my camera with me (do I ever not have it with me these days?) And so my friends and I took quite a few photographs to capture my special day!

And then of course we had to take a group photo, too!

By the end of the afternoon I was exhausted from all of the sunshine!

Later that evening I went out to dinner with my good friend, Remy, and then came home, snuggled under my sheets (because it was way too hot for blankets), ate some of the Edible Arrangement that my friends from home had sent to me (thank you Dominique, Sidney, Maija, & Sarah!), did a bit of work, and headed to bed!

I couldn’t be a happier newly twenty-year-old!

Almost Twenty!

On Thursday (May 30th) I’ll be turning twenty years old! *insert birthday balloons & confetti here*

I know, I know – it’s still incredibly young in the large scheme of things, but nonetheless, I’m excited to finally eliminate the “teen” from the end of my age and move forward into real adulthood! (Err, or….semi-adult hood. I don’t think I’m ready for all of the responsibilities of real adulthood just yet…)

Either way, I traveled home this weekend to celebrate!

And was greeted with [early] birthday flowers from my boyfriend, Drew! (He’s too cute!) (-:

He knows that sunflowers are my absolute favorite flowers, but unfortunately, they’re not in-season just yet. So he pulled some strings and got me sunflower look-alikes! What a good boyfriend!

The next morning I went out to my favorite breakfast place with my Mom, Stepdad, and Drew.

I ordered pancakes, per usual, but this time around Drew and I also split an order of homefries. And let me tell you, these homefries weren’t your usual greasy, fried potatoes. Rather, they were freshly cut, organic potatoes (and sweet potatoes) mixed with yummy herbs and the perfect amount of seasoning. Um, YES! I’m a total foodie, so these homefries were obviously the highlight of my morning.

On Sunday, I helped my Mom prepare vegetable kabobs for the grill. I’m no longer a vegetarian, but I still shy away from meat the majority of the time and prefer to eat fruits and veggies!

How was YOUR weekend? x

Therapy Dogs!

Yesterday, the “Schenectady Chapter of Therapy Dogs International” came to visit Union!

Now, what is a therapy dog, you ask?

According to the “Therapy Dogs International” website, a therapy dog is a dog that is trained to provide affection and comfort to people! Therapy dogs visit all sorts of places, such as hospitals, retirement homes, nursing homes, schools (!!), and hospices, and furthermore, can help people with learning disabilities or who have just experienced something traumatic. All therapy dogs are required to have an “outstanding temperament” and an overwhelming love for people. And let me tell you, the doggies that came to visit us most definitely did!

The dogs were right outside of the library and so on my way to work (I work as a Writing Consultant at the Writing Center, which is located on the second floor of Schaffer Library) I stopped and spent a good fifteen minutes petting, and generally loving, the dogs.

I used the VINE app on my iPhone to film a short clip of a few of the dogs. Once I got to a computer, I looped it, put it to music [“Don’t Worry, Be Happy”] and sent it to the Schenectady Chapter of Therapy Dogs International so that they could share it with everyone! [You can find it on their Facebook page!]

I hope that they come back to visit again soon!

The Gardens

This Sunday, the Spring weather that we’ve all been desperately waiting for arrived! It was a whopping 70 degrees and the majority of the students at Union took the opportunity to come outside and play!

I, of course, headed to The Gardens – my absolute favorite spot on campus. (How many times have you guys heard me say that by now?) My good friend, Remy, accompanied me, and while our initial plan was to do work, we quickly got distracted and ended up lounging around amongst a patch of yellow buttercups right beneath the Weeping Willow tree!

After three hours of flower-fun (hehe) we decided to delay work for a bit more time and instead, headed off to The Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir’s 4th Annual Spring Jubilee concert! There, not only did The Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir sing, but so did all of the acapella groups on campus (The Dutch Pipers; the all men’s group, The Eliphalets; the co-ed group, and The Garnet Minstrelles; the all women’s group)! It was a really wonderful, enjoyable show.

Unfortunately, Remy and I both discovered within a few hours that we were sunburnt (ouch!) but I think that our time in the sun was well worth it. This week the weather is going to continue to be beautiful and so I’m sure I’ll continue to be outside – but this time, I’ll be sure to wear lots and lots of sunscreen! (-:

Hope you all have had happy Tuesdays! x
